Their quote got me, post Valentine’s.

Tokyo Subway Art

13 02 2008

While we all have our favorite strange little subway reminders in Manhattan, it’s Tokyo that did much of it’s beautification in the sizzle-pop of the eighties, when business was booming and people somewhere in this world were still brave enough to use white tile for the floors in a public facility.

Showing scenes from a nearby street are common, maybe as a point of reference for people who haven’t been up there in a while. Tokyo tunnels go for miles, they say.

Amazement with Paper

Jen Stark is the Scissor-handed oracle of colored paper confetti. In a blend between origami and construction craft, her sculpture is a delight for the eye.

Lori Nix Clock Towers, Aquariums & Maximum Destruction in Miniature

13 02 2008

Lori Nix (of frozen frog throwing fame) now has examples of her astounding dedication to mini-scenery up at the Randall Scott Gallery featuring all sorts of Ben Hur & Godzilla-worthy settings, captured in chromogenic goodness.  Raised in Kansas, her post-apocalyptic urban scenes depict the sort of destruction often found after tornadoes and dust storms.

Now in Brooklyn where she completes her miniature works in her apartment living room, Nix admits some models take up to two years, even with help from girlfriend and neighbors.

More images are up at her site: Lori Nix
